Vivid Street in Pilsen Aug 15 – 21

Plzeň lives to the fullest in the summer!

Multigenre festival Vivid Street – Pilsen Encounters continues with an eighteen–year old tradition, whose predecessor was the festival Na ulici (On the street), which in the time leading up to reaching it’s full age build up an excellent reputation in the whole town of Plzeň. With honor to tradition and precision typical to us, to the west bohemian metropolis we want to bring music, theatre and other activities on an international level. We want to transform the the squares and parks of Plzeň into one big stage, the way we do with the biggest street theatre festival Za dveřmi (Behind doors) or the accompanying program of the music festival United Islands. Both programs for several years have put summer boredom in Prague into the past. That’s exactly how we want to transform summer Plzeň into a vibrant culture center.

The whole festival is free and so the residents of Plzeň and the Plzeň region can look forward to 16 days in the course of 3 months full of musical, theatrical and accompanying programs

We’ll meet in the festival Vivid street!

The Sovinec Castle

I live with my husband and two children in Eastern Bohemia. I come from Northern Moravia, my husband comes from Northern Bohemia (we met at the students´ hostel in Eastern Bohemia). We decided to live halfway – so that we both have our parents at the same distance.

It is obvious that we travel quite often – to visit our families. When we go to Southern Moravia we drive through Vysoké Mýto, Litomyšl, Mohelnice, Olomouc and then go north to my birth village that is near Opava.

.

On our way from Olomouc to Opava we always meet an information sign about the Sovinec Castle. It is not located exactly on our road but it had always attracted me to visit it.

h

Once I decided to suggest my husband to visit that castle on our way from my parents. I was surprised that he agreed because he does not like stopping anywhere when we go by car.

.

Soon we turned a bit from our way home and got to the Sovinec Castle. And I have to say I am glad we have been there. What is the best for us – we decided to go there in August and that time special programmes were held there.

The name of the castle is a bit strange. It means something like the Owls´ Home Castle. The castle is situated on a cone-shaped hill located in the south-west parts of the Rešov Hills, in the Nízký Jeseník Mountains, in the Bruntál District, the Moravian-Silesian Region.

.

The castle was built in the 13th century. Since that time it has been rebuilt many times (in gothic, renaissance and baroque styles) but still keeps its origin lookout. It is the largest castle complex in Moravia.

When we were there we could see many interesting things. Not only the castle itself that really is imposing; but also a special summer program that was focused on the medieval life.

.

For me the most beautiful part of the castle was the lookout tower. I liked the old buildings and the tower is the oldest part of the castle. The lookout from the tower was amazing. We could see the Sovinec Natural Park and also the Nízký Jeseník Mountains. I also liked the exhibitions located in the castle

h

We also could see scenes from the medieval lives and etiquette, knightly tournaments and competitions in cutting with the swords. My husband and our sun were absolutely fascinated by the knightly tournaments, the knightly competitions and the exhibition of the weapons´ history. We were also interested in the old and almost forgotten crafts.

h

My daughter (she is six) liked the puppet fairy tales the most. The whole afternoon program was full of interesting things and I am sure we will go to this castle more often – such programmes are held there every summer weekend.

Holidays in a motor camp near Hrádek nad Nisou

Several days ago we came back from our week long holidays spent in a motor camp near Hrádek nad Nisou. The car camp is called Kristýna and is located in North Bohemia, in the Liberec Region, in the area of the town of Hrádek nad Nisou.

.

Hrádek nad Nisou.

Before we decided to make a reservation in this camp we were trying to find some information about it. Our friends told us they had heard about that camp. So we opened their websites to find out more.

.

We were pleased by what we found. Very nice websites made in a pleasant way. We were able to find there any information we needed.

V srdci Trojzemí

The strongest arguments for us to choose this camp were: a) the lake that is located in the area of the camp; b) many kinds of sports that we could choose to do; c) places for children to play, even the inside places (to hide from the rain or from the midday sun).

.

Our way there was a bit complicated because I am not a good navigator. But as soon as we were in the camp everything was ok. The camp looked exactly like on the websites. We have a small daughter so we booked a room in a boarding house to sleep in. People can choose among sleeping in a boarding house, a chalet, a tent or in a caravan.

We bought half board because we knew we would go to some whole day trips or buy some pizza in the camp pizzeria. We were satisfied with the meals.

.

We were lucky about the weather. The whole week it was sunny weather but not too hot. We could swim in the lake, mainly in the afternoons when the water temperature was quite ok. In the mornings we could do many different things just because the temperatures were ok.

h

What did we do during the whole week holiday? We made many sports. Several with our daughter (Russian skittles, jumping on the trampolines, riding a bike, in-line skating). There is a children playground in the area, so when one of us wanted to make some sport for the adults (tennis, volleyball, Zumba, Pilates, aerobic), the other parent was with our daughter e.g. on the playground, swimming in the lake or we went to the climbing centre where our daughter could swing on a special cableway.

We also made some trips to the surrounding Lužické Mountains. We liked its rocks, viewpoints, its colours and terrain. Of course, we could not miss Liberec that is about 20 kilometres far from the camp – its Zoo garden and the Babylon Centre where we visited the IQ park and the Water World.  We liked the Liberec town hall a lot. It is a historic building in the new renaissance transalpine style.

My husband is a bit addicted to the online smartphone games, so any free moment he played some game because there is the Wi-Fi connection in the whole camp area.

.

I am sure that we will go there again when our daughter is a bit older, at least ten. Then we will visit the number of castles and chateaus that are there in the camp´s surroundings (Grabštejn, Frýdlant, Sychrov or Lemberk). And also the towns of Žitava (Zittau) or Oybin that are near the German borders.

The DinoPark in Vyškov

We have visited the DinoPark in Vyškov. We liked it a lot so that is why I want to write about it. We decided to visit it after watching several advertisements  about it. We read that the DinoPark was a unique entertaining and educating park for the whole family that offered a unique view to the Earth history.

.

The DinoPark in Vyškov

We are a family with two small children, or son is eight and our daughter is four years old. So we have to look for such trips where they can have some fun, get some information and have a physical activity. And what is also important for us – we cannot drive or go much far because our daughter does not like long riding.

h

We live near Ostrava so we decided to try the Vyškov DinoPark. Vyškov is a town near Brno; it is located in the South Moravian Region. We had our car broken that weekend so we decided to go by train.

It was an easy way because we went by bus to Studénka, there we changed to a train and within 90 minutes we were in Vyškov. Our way from the train station to the DinoPark was even easier. The DinoPark entrance is in the Zoo Park in the centre of the town. And the railway station is located about 300 metres far from the Zoo Park entrance.

h

The Vyškov DinoPark is opened from March to October. But watch their websites – in March, April, May and October they are opened just at the weekends.

.

Several metres behind the DinoPark gate we saw the first dinosaur. It was large and very loud. Children were a bit scared. We explained them that the dinosaurs were just the models and the sound was coming out of the loudspeakers  As soon as they found out that the dinosaurs were just large toys they lost all of their worries and began to enjoy playing with them.

.

They were climbing up the dinosaurs, sitting in their egg shells, lying in their mouths.

h

Of course, we had to visit the 4D cinema with the movie called The story of a Hatching. Why the cinema is called 4D? Because you watch a 3D movie and the floor moves together with the movie.

.

We had to visit the cinema twice because our children were covering their eyes quite often during the first visit. After finishing our DinoPark visit they wanted to watch to movie again to know what it really was about.

.

Children also could play the palaeontologists on a special playground. We enjoyed the DinoPark educational trail and also our ride by the DinoExpres that is a special train that drives to the ZooPark where we saw many beautiful animals.

Our son also tried the suspension trail for special bikes. It goes up to 11 metres high and he could watch the DinoPark from the birds´ view. Ha had to pedal to move the special bike.

.

There is a special plant in the DinoPark – a living Mesozoic plant called Wollemia Nobilis. It was growing on the Earth already during the dinosaur era; 175 million years ago. And looks amazing!

.

h

We were absolutely satisfied with our trip and recommend it to anyone who wants to see the dinosaurs in their real size.
